ইমরান জানান, যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ের আমন্ত্রণে ইয়থ ভিজিটর লিডারশিপ প্রোগ্রাম ও মানবাধিকার সংক্রান্ত আরেকটি অনুষ্ঠানে অংশ নেওয়ার জন্য তিনি আমেরিকা যাচ্ছিলেন। এমিরেটাস এয়ারলাইন্সের একটি ফ্লাইটে সন্ধ্যা সাড়ে ৭টার দিকে তার যাওয়ার কথা ছিল। এজন্য তিনি বিকেল ৪টার দিকে হযরত শাহজালাল আন্তর্জাতিক বিমানবন্দরে পৌঁছান। বোর্ডিং পাশ নিয়ে তিনি ইমিগ্রেশন প্রক্রিয়া সম্পন্ন করেন। নির্দিষ্ট সময়ে তিনি বিমানের ভেতরে নিজ আসনে বসলে একজন পুলিশ কর্মকর্তা তাকে সেখান থেকে ডেকে বের করে নিয়ে আসেন। পরে তার সঙ্গে দীর্ঘ সময় নিয়ে আমেরিকা যাওয়ার কারণ নিয়ে কথা বলেন। এরমধ্যে বিমান ছেড়ে যায়। পরে ওই পুলিশ কর্মকর্তা তাকে উপরের নির্দেশে যুক্তরাষ্ট্র যাত্রা বাতিল করা হয়েছে বলে জানায়।
ইমরান বলেন, ‘আজ আমার সঙ্গে যা করা হলো তা একটি অগণতান্ত্রিক আচরণ, নিপীড়নমূলক। আমি একটি ভালো কাজে যাচ্ছিলাম। কিন্তু নজীরবিহীনভাবে আমাকে ইমিগ্রেশন পার হওয়ার পর আবার ফিরিয়ে আনা হয়। আমার বিরুদ্ধে কোনও মামলা বা ভ্রমণ নিষেধাজ্ঞাও নেই। ভ্রমণ নিষেধাজ্ঞা থাকলে ইমিগ্রেশনের সময় তারা আটকাতো। এরকম নজিরবিহীন ঘটনার তীব্র নিন্দা জানাই।
